As of yesterday it is official, Twitter announced that they are now testing a new ‘Buy Now’ button which gives users the ability to purchases items DIRECTLY from a tweet!
This is a big change because it decreases the sales funnel dramatically. Instead of consumers having to click a link in a tweet, browse the site, and then finally decide if they want to buy, they can now just purchase with a click of a button. This change decreases both the length of the sales funnel and the amount of time the consumer has to contemplate the purchase (often leading to them changing their mind).
For the test, Twitter announced that they are partnering with Fancy (@fancy), Gumroad (@gumroad), Musictoday (@Musictoday) and Stripe (@stripe), but that they expect to expand the test group soon.
Here is how Twitter says the experience will work for the consumer:
In our test, an entire purchase can be completed in just a few taps. After tapping the “Buy” button, you will get additional product details and be prompted to enter your shipping and payment information. Once that’s entered and confirmed, your order information is sent to the merchant for delivery.
